Bird Feeders

In order to make the most of your bird feeder, it is important to position the product in a location which is convenient for both you and the birds. For instance, you need to ensure that you are able to access the bird feeder easily for regular refilling and cleaning. It also needs to be positioned in an area where both you and the birds can clearly see it. Our top tips for the positioning of your bird feeder are as follows:

1. When deciding where to put your Gardman bird feeder, consider the natural habitat of the birds you are trying to attract. For instance, bird feeders for woodpeckers are most effective when positioned close to tree trunks, whereas platform feeders for ground feeding birds will work better when positioned in an area where those birds would usually feed.
2. Place your bird feeder in a quiet area where there will be minimal disturbance. Avoid placing the feeder close to children’s play areas, patios and garage doors.
3. Ensure that birds will be able to take shelter whenever a predator is near, by placing your feeder within 10 feet of a shrub or a tree.
4. Protect birds from flying into closed windows by placing your feeder, either very close to a window (within 3 feet), or far away from a window (at least 10 feet away). If this is not possible, consider alerting birds to the presence of the window by installing interior blinds or curtains and keeping them partially closed.
5. Place your bird feeder in an open, sunny area, to ensure that birds can see it.
6. Keep your bird feeder far away from chemicals, such as pesticides, to avoid contamination of food.
7. Make sure that your bird feeder is not located close to any fences or roofs, as squirrels are likely to jump from these areas and land on the feeder.
8. If you have more than one feeder, ensure that the feeders are well spaced out. If feeding areas are crowded, this can appear intimidating to birds and can cause aggression between species.
9. Ensure that your bird feeder will be sheltered from adverse weather conditions.
10. If no birds have used your feeder after 2-3 weeks, try moving it to another spot in the garden.
